2026 Mazda CX-5 Review: Bigger, Tech-Heavy Redesign

Mazda's 2026 CX-5 arrives with significant upgrades, marking the compact crossover's most substantial redesign yet. The new model grows by 4.5 inches in length and 0.5 inches in width, offering more interior space while maintaining its practical footprint. Starting at $29,990, the CX-5 now features an all-new Google-based infotainment system and Mazda's first in-house hybrid powertrain.

Gone are the CX-5's simple but effective controls, replaced by a 12.9-inch or 15.6-inch touchscreen running Android Automotive OS. The digital gauge cluster offers a restrained interface without map display options. Mazda eliminated the beloved rotary controller, opting instead for touch-sensitive multifunction steering wheel controls with haptic feedback. The cabin maintains Mazda's premium feel across five trim levels, each priced $2,000 apart.

The CX-5's exterior receives subtle refinements, including a new light signature and bodywork that wraps dramatically around the front fenders. While the design evokes Range Rover styling cues, Mazda's signature Soul Red Crystal paint remains available for $595. Despite the tech-heavy updates and size increase, the CX-5 retains its position as Mazda's volume seller, bridging the gap between the North America-focused CX-50 and the larger CX-90 and CX-70 SUVs.
