Marvel Fighting: Tōkon Souls has had a rocky start since its August 6 launch, facing both technical issues and disappointing commercial performance.

According to @GameDataLibrary on X, the game sold only 2,814 retail copies in Japan during its launch week. While Japanese physical sales typically account for a larger portion of total sales, even with an estimated 75-80% physical split, this translates to roughly 10,000 total units sold on PS5 in Japan alone.

Steam DB data shows the game peaked at 24,498 concurrent players on PC launch day, but numbers have declined steadily since then, with daily peaks dropping to around 3,500 players by publication date.

GameDataLibrary notes that these figures fall well below previous Marvel vs. Capcom titles and represent less than half of the sales achieved by Marvel Fighting Collection. The account also states that Tokon Souls marks the worst Japanese launch for an Arc System Works fighter, performing below entries in the Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and Under Night in Birth franchises.
