Tesla Recall in China: Nearly 3 Million Cars Affected

Tesla is facing a major recall in China involving 2.98 million Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. Chinese regulators are demanding the automaker add warning labels inside the cars to clarify how to open rear doors during emergencies when the vehicle loses power. This action follows growing concerns over electronically controlled car doors, with several fatal crashes reported when occupants were trapped in burning vehicles.

New rules set to take effect next year will require specific handle dimensions for all newly approved vehicles, while existing models like the Model 3 and Y remain grandfathered until 2028. Additionally, Tesla must issue a software update that automatically lowers windows in the event of a collision. A second recall affects 2.74 million cars, requiring a driver monitoring system update that uses the interior camera to track the driver's gaze instead of relying solely on a torque sensor.

The update aims to improve driver engagement, though reports suggest some owners have bypassed the system using props like a doll's head.
