AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition revives the legendary 8-core Zen 3 processor with 96 MB of total L3 cache, including 64 MB of 3D V-Cache. Originally launched at $450 in 2022, this limited-run re-release is now priced at just $340, making it an affordable upgrade path for existing AM4 users. The chip maintains the same 3.40 GHz base and 4.50 GHz boost clocks, 105 W TDP, and dual-channel DDR4 memory support, dropping into any Socket AM4 motherboard with a BIOS update. AMD bundles a Carbice carbon-fiber thermal pad, which the review tests through 450 heat cycles to verify cooling performance. With DDR5 prices inflated due to AI demand, DDR4 platforms remain attractive for budget-conscious gamers. The review compares the 5800X3D against Intel Core i5 and i7 models, noting its strong gaming performance despite being built on the older 7 nm process. While the AM5 platform offers future-proofing, the 5800X3D provides excellent value for those already invested in AM4 systems.

The processor features 8 cores and 16 threads, 512 KB of L2 cache per core, and 96 MB of shared L3 cache addressed as a single contiguous block. It supports 24 lanes of PCIe Gen 4 and has a TDP of 105 W, identical to the original. The 10th Anniversary Edition is positioned as a final hurrah for the AM4 platform, offering the fastest gaming CPU possible on Socket AM4 without requiring new memory or a new motherboard. AMD includes a Carbice thermal pad as a bonus, claiming better longevity and cleaner application than traditional thermal paste.

In benchmark comparisons, the 5800X3D competes closely with Intel's Core i5-13400F and Core i5-14600K, particularly in gaming workloads where the 3D V-Cache provides a significant advantage. While newer Zen 4 and Zen 5 processors offer higher core counts and better multi-threaded performance, the 5800X3D remains a strong choice for pure gaming on a budget.
