Redmi K100 Pro Max Chipset Downgrade Rumor

The first details about the upcoming Redmi K100 Pro Max surfaced in March, and today Digital Chat Station shared fresh information on Weibo. Initially the phone was rumored to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, but new chatter points to a switch to the older Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

If the original plan was to adopt the next‑gen SoC, this appears to be a cost‑cutting move tied to the ongoing chip shortage. The newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is cheaper, freeing up budget to buy the pricier RAM and storage components.

Other specs include a flat panel with an 185Hz refresh rate, an ultra‑high‑resolution display yet to be quantified, and a 200‑MP main camera plus a 50‑MP periscope telephoto lens. Battery claims cite at least a 9,000 mAh pack, 100W wired charging, wireless support, and an in‑display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

The device will feature IP68/IP69 protection and a “best‑in‑class” speaker system. The Redmi K90 Pro Max launched in October last year, so the K100 Pro Max might follow in the same month, though the launch date remains unclear.
