Detroit's expansion franchise made a splash on the first day of PWHL free agency, signing forward Daryl Watts to the league's inaugural four-year contract worth a minimum of $100,000 annually. General manager Manon Rhéaume moved quickly to secure the Toronto native, who led the Sceptres with 10 goals and 19 points last season while ranking second in the league with 32 career goals.

The signing represents an Expansion Foundational Offer, allowing Watts to lock in the maximum term after her $59,000 salary in Toronto last year. She recently captured Olympic silver with Canada at the Milan Cortina Games. Detroit also added defenders Cayla Barnes and Hannah Bilka, both fresh off U.S. Olympic gold, with Bilka tying the tournament scoring lead at four goals.

Hamilton wasn't idle either, landing veteran Brianne Jenner on a three-year deal after her three seasons in Ottawa. The 35-year-old captain's move brings her closer to Oakville, while the new Hamilton club also secured New York goalie Kayle Osborne. San Jose completed their day by signing Seattle's Corinne Schroeder to a two-year agreement.

These moves leave Las Vegas as the only expansion team without a signing, while Seattle has now lost the maximum three players allowed during this phase. Detroit's aggressive approach signals their intent to compete immediately in the league's second season.
