Kansas City’s baseball future takes a downtown turn as the Royals and Hallmark Cards collaborate on a new stadium at Crown Center. The joint venture will encircle mixed‑use retail and office space, positioning the franchise inside the city’s cultural core. The plan promises a fresh fan experience and signals a long‑term commitment to local growth.

Officials estimate the 85‑acre complex could generate over 20,000 construction jobs and attract a private investment of $2 billion or more, making it the largest development in Kansas City history. The design features a park‑like central square with fountains, blending sport, commerce and community.

Royals CEO and chairman John Sherman said the partnership honors founder Ewing Kauffman’s vision of a city‑anchored team. Hallmark executive chairman Don Hall Jr. highlighted the symbolic return of the iconic crown logo to the neighborhood where it first inspired Hallmark’s branding.

Public funding will supplement private capital, with support from the City of Kansas City and Missouri’s Show‑Me Sports Investment Act. Governor Mike Kehoe praised the move as a commitment to Kansas City and the broader state. Mayor Quinton Lucas added that the project will keep downtown vibrant and ensure baseball endures for generations.
