Kojima's PlayStation Split Blamed on Expensive Production

Following previous reports that Kojima Productions had split from PlayStation on the production and publication of Physint, with the studio eventually landing at Xbox for the upcoming stealth action game, new insider reports claim that there were behind-the-scenes issues that pushed PlayStation to cancel Physint.

According to notorious insider, Jason Schreier, at Bloomberg, insiders at PlayStation say that the game was behind schedule and projected to be over budget. Kojima Productions had allegedly already missed deadlines during the game's development. The journalist explains that another major factor was the commercial performance of Kojima's Death Stranding games, which apparently did not meet PlayStation's expectations.

The report also confirmed that, as TechPowerUp theorized in our previous reporting on the Physint drama, there was no platform exclusivity guarantee for Sony.

This is only the latest in a string of cancelled games out of Sony, who recently also pulled the plug on Destiny 2, despite that game's massive following, and seems to be struggling to get Bungie's latest game, Marathon, off the ground properly.
