Rumors resurfaced that Apple may revive its chip‑fabric partnership with Intel, but Apple would retain full design control. GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu filed a note saying Intel’s upcoming 14A process could start mass production in 2028, supplying Apple‑designed silicon. Intel’s role would be limited to fabrication, not architecture.

Analyst Pu expects Intel to supply chips for lower‑tier iPhone models beginning in 2028, potentially covering parts of the future A21 or A22 silicon. TSMC will stay Apple’s main foundry, while Intel previously provided cellular modems for iPhone 7‑11. Separately, Ming‑Chi Kuo predicts Intel’s 18A process will ship Apple’s entry‑level M‑series for select Macs and iPads by mid‑2027.

Adding Intel to the mix would diversify Apple’s supply chain at a time Nvidia has eclipsed Apple as TSMC’s largest customer, intensifying competition for advanced wafers. A domestic fab partnership also aligns with U.S. manufacturing incentives. Observers will watch for a formal agreement later this year, which could reshape pricing and availability of future iPhone models.
