Trump claims Apple, Intel to launch US chip partnership

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that Apple and Intel have agreed to design and manufacture chips for the Cupertino giant. Neither company has issued a statement, but the claim mirrors reports that Apple is eyeing a domestic fab partner. If true, the tie‑up could also spur related equipment manufacturing in the Midwest.

Apple currently sources the bulk of its A‑series and M‑series silicon from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., a plant stretched thin by soaring AI‑chip demand. By tapping Intel’s newly announced 18A process, Apple could diversify its fab base and relieve pressure on TSMC’s lines, which are already juggling Nvidia and AMD orders. The 18A node offers higher density and lower power, key for mobile chips.

The Biden administration has pledged $10 billion to boost Intel’s U.S. production capacity, framing the move as a strategic effort to cut reliance on China and Taiwan. Securing Apple as a steady customer would give Intel a high‑profile revenue stream after recent setbacks, while the U.S. gains jobs and a more resilient semiconductor supply chain. Analysts say the Apple tie could restore Intel’s market confidence.
