Trump Says Apple-Intel US Chip Deal Finalized Without Confirmation

Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that Apple has finalized a deal with Intel to design and manufacture chips in the United States. However, neither company has confirmed the arrangement. Trump criticized previous administrations for allowing other countries to dominate semiconductor manufacturing while suggesting his administration pushed for the partnership.

Previous reports indicated the companies signed preliminary agreements months ago. The Wall Street Journal noted Intel would produce chips powering Apple devices domestically. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reportedly spent a year convincing Apple to work with Intel again, ending their separation after Apple shifted to TSMC-made silicon.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported Apple began testing systems-on-chip using Intel's 18A process. Production testing is expected through 2026, with potential delivery afterward. Intel's Oregon, Arizona and Ohio facilities would handle manufacturing, though TSMC would still produce most Apple chips.

The administration's push included taking a 10 percent stake in Intel in August 2025 through an $8.9 billion investment combining CHIPS Act funding and Secure Enclave program awards. Whether Trump's claim reflects reality remains unclear since both companies continue declining to comment on the partnership.
