Apple Intel Chip Partnership Rumors

GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu predicts Apple may use Intel's 14A process to fabricate some iPhone processors by 2028. However, TSMC would remain Apple's primary foundry partner. Pu suggests Intel would act solely as a manufacturer for chips entirely designed by Apple, focusing on non-Pro models rather than high-end silicon.

The move would signal Apple's long-term strategy to diversify its chip manufacturing beyond TSMC. This could provide leverage in negotiations and hedge against supply chain risks. Historically, Apple has relied on TSMC for its most advanced silicon, including the A-series and M-series chips, due to proven yields and ecosystem integration.

Intel's challenge lies in matching TSMC's efficiency, yield consistency, and volume scale for mobile chips. A successful partnership could start with entry-level devices, but any shift remains years away. Until Intel demonstrates reliable high-volume production, TSMC will continue as Apple's sole confirmed manufacturer for its demanding iPhone silicon.
