PC Vendors Secure CXMT Memory Amid Shortages

Major PC OEMs are securing deals with Chinese memory maker CXMT, as DRAM supply from SK hynix, Samsung, and Micron is depleted. CXMT's capacity is booked through 2027, with large vendors like Dell, HP, and Apple receiving allocations while smaller OEMs struggle.

These large vendors leverage their volume, signing bigger contracts with CXMT for increased DRAM supply, even at higher prices. This signals positive reception for CXMT's capacity expansion and encourages further fab construction. The US government's decision on CXMT's barred entity status remains pending, prompting OEMs to stockpile available DRAM.

CXMT's production capacity is projected to reach approximately 350,000 DRAM wafers per month by the end of 2026, nearly matching Micron's estimated 375,000 wafers. CXMT also boasts significantly faster cleanroom construction, completing them in about 12 months compared to the industry standard of 21-24 months.
