Global PC shipments grew 3.2% year-over-year in Q1 2026 to 64.8 million units, according to Omdia research. Notebook shipments increased 2.6% to 50.8 million units, while desktop shipments rose 5.4% to 14.0 million units. The growth was driven by vendors pulling orders forward ahead of anticipated component cost increases and continued Windows 10 replacement cycle demand.

Memory and storage costs have already risen significantly, with prices increasing roughly five-fold and three-fold respectively since Q1 2025. AI data center build-outs are crowding consumer categories out of memory and storage supply. CPU prices are also rising, with Intel and AMD projecting 10-25% increases into Q2. These pressures are expected to squeeze vendor margins and force price increases to channel partners and end customers.

Lenovo maintained its market leadership with 8.7% growth and 25.1% market share, while Dell showed strong momentum with 7.8% growth. HP declined 4.9% due to weak performance in Europe and the US. Apple reached 11% market share with 5.4% growth driven by MacBook Air sales and new MacBook Neo shipments. With supply chain pressures building, Omdia expects Q1's modest growth to mark the high point for the year.
