Chinese laptop maker Chuwi is facing allegations of specification fraud after shipping laptops with older AMD processors than advertised. According to Notebookcheck's investigation, Chuwi's CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus models were marketed with AMD Ryzen 5 7430U chips but actually contained the older Ryzen 5 5500U processors. The discrepancy was discovered during routine disassembly and testing of review units.

This means customers expecting newer Zen 3 architecture and improved performance received instead Zen 2 generation hardware with different graphics capabilities. The older Ryzen 5 5500U features Radeon Graphics 448SP rather than the advertised Vega 6 graphics. Both the CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus were affected, with Notebookcheck verifying the substitution through diagnostic tools, performance testing, and AMD's OPN numbers.

Chuwi has reportedly called this a production error and threatened legal action against Notebookcheck for publishing the findings. The company has repeatedly requested article removal, which Notebookcheck has refused. This incident raises serious questions about quality control and transparency in the budget laptop market, where consumers may be unable to verify specifications without technical expertise.
