Intel Core Ultra 7 356H Benchmarks: Middling Gains Revealed

Leaked benchmark scores for Intel's upcoming Core Ultra 7 356H mobile processor have emerged, revealing modest performance improvements. The results, sourced from @realVictor_M on X, show the new chip achieving similar single-core scores as its predecessor, the Core Ultra 7 255H. However, multicore performance demonstrates a slight increase in the Cinebench R23 tests.

The 356H, a 16-core Panther Lake CPU, struggles to significantly outperform the previous generation. The integrated Intel Graphics 4 Xe3 iGPU also lags behind the outgoing Arc 140V iGPU. This suggests that the new chip may not offer substantial gains for consumers upgrading from current Intel-based laptops. These results are unverified, which means there is a chance the performance may change.

Intel's Panther Lake CPUs are expected to compete with AMD's Ryzen AI 400 series APUs, which are already appearing in laptops. Given the minor performance gains, Intel faces a challenge to entice consumers. Further, the leaked benchmarks add to the speculation surrounding Intel's next-generation mobile chips.

Industry analysts and tech reviewers will be keen to see the final, verified performance figures. The official review embargoes are "right around the corner." The success of the Core Ultra 7 356H in the mobile market will depend on whether it can compete with the Ryzen AI 400 series from AMD.
