John Cartwright Appointed Catalans Dragons Head Coach After Hull FC Exit

John Cartwright has been appointed head coach of Catalans Dragons with immediate effect, following his departure from Hull FC. The Australian coach takes over from interim boss Ryan Sheridan, who stepped in after Joel Tomkins resigned in April for personal reasons. Cartwright will lead the Dragons in their upcoming match against York this Saturday.

Cartwright's exit from Hull came after he was informed in May that he would no longer continue as head coach, though he remained under contract until Tuesday. The coach expressed feeling "betrayed" and "disrespected" by how the situation unfolded. Hull FC officially released him from his contract to facilitate the move to France, ending his tenure after just one season where the club finished seventh.

The 57-year-old brings extensive experience to the role, having previously coached the Gold Coast Titans and served as an assistant at North Queensland Cowboys during their 2015 NRL premiership campaign. He will be supported by Sheridan, Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce as Catalans look to improve on their current league position.

Cartwright's appointment represents a significant change for the French club as they push for a playoff spot in the latter stages of the Super League season. His proven track record in both hemispheres should provide the stability needed for a strong finish.
