McVay: Donald Decision Not Until Aug. 8

Rams coach Sean McVay said he doesn’t expect defensive tackle Aaron Donald to decide about returning from retirement until after the team gets back to its Woodland Hills facility on Aug. 8. He added that 'things are going in the right direction' and the decision will come once the player undergoes a 'very strict, regimented process' to gauge how his body responds to training.

The Rams have spent their early camp days at Loyola Marymount University, with the last practice there slated for Aug. 7. McVay emphasized keeping Wall discussions private to respect Donald’s situation, noting that the conversation began when the Rams traded for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

Garrett declined to influence Donald’s choice but said the pair could 'do great things' if Donald returns. Donald, who retired in March 2024, leaves as the franchise’s all‑time sack leader with 111 career sacks. The team remains focused on training and monitoring Donald’s recovery, hoping any decision will ultimately trend upward.
