Njoku confirmed the news via Instagram Monday night, stating it's time to find a new home, expressing gratitude to Cleveland while acknowledging the City of Cleveland will forever be his home. Despite trade rumors before the deadline, Njoku insisted he wasn't leaving during the season, only to face uncertainty about his future as the season concluded. Browns GM Andrew Berry confirmed the team expects 'significant turnover' on offense as they rebuild a unit that scored the fewest points in the league over the past two seasons.

Njoku ranks second in Browns history for touchdown catches (34) and receptions (384) among tight ends, trailing only Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome. However, his production has been hampered by injuries, missing 11 games in the past two seasons. His 2025 season saw a career-low 8.9 yards per reception. The Browns selected Njoku with the 29th pick in the 2017 draft. His breakout 2023 season, with 81 catches for 882 yards and six touchdowns, earned him a Pro Bowl selection, though his recent output has declined.
