A feature on Fitzgerald’s college career at Pittsburgh examined why he never won the Heisman. Kicker Adam Vinatieri drew laughs by joking about Bill Belichick and Peyton Manning in his speech. Running back Roger Craig revealed during his taped acceptance that he has been diagnosed with vascular dementia. Injury News

Washington’s offensive line lost left tackle Laremy Tunsil to a torn triceps suffered in practice; he will likely require surgery and miss a significant portion of the regular season. The Bears saw rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III leave practice early with an apparent lower-body injury after a collision with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. In Baltimore, Zay Flowers is day-to-day with a left quad contusion, avoiding a more serious issue but still sidelined briefly.

Training Camp and Preseason

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan plans to coach the preseason opener against the Titans as he nears full recovery from last month’s car crash. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said his rehabbed knee feels “great” and he sometimes does not think about it during practice.
