Max Scherzer struck out four Saturday to reach 3,516 career strikeouts, passing Walter Johnson for 10th all time. Jacob deGrom, after telling the Rangers he did not want to be traded, fanned nine over five innings in a 5-1 win over Baltimore. Jackson Jobe returned from Tommy John surgery after more than 14 months and was “electrifying” as the Tigers blanked the Giants 8-0. Payton Tolle struck out a career-high 14 in six innings to fuel Boston’s ninth straight win. The Dodgers expect left-hander Blake Snell to return from the injured list Tuesday against the Royals.

Streaks and Slumps

The Dodgers ended a seven-game skid by outlasting Arizona 2-1 in 10 innings, one night after a stunning walk-off homer by rookie Ryan Waldschmidt off closer Edwin Diaz had extended the losing streak to seven. The Red Sox saw their 10-game win streak snapped with a 7-3 loss to the Athletics. The first-place White Sox entered Saturday on a four-game losing streak and are calling up two pitching prospects from Triple-A Charlotte.

Milestones and Ceremonies

The White Sox retired Ozzie Guillén’s No. 13 in a pregame ceremony, with the former manager and shortstop saying he was “grateful.” Chase Utley, a six-time All-Star and 2008 World Series champion, was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame.
