Payton Tolle struck out a career-high 14 hitters in six innings, as Wilyer Abreu drove in three runs to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 13-1 rout of the Athletics on Friday night. Tolle's performance tied for the second most strikeouts in a game by an American League rookie over the past 50 years, trailing only Roger Clemens, who fanned 15 in August 1984.

Tolle (7-6) was perfect through four innings, allowing only one run on two hits. The Red Sox win their ninth game in a row, becoming just the seventh team since 1920 to win 27 or more in a 30-game span, and the only team to begin such a run under.500.

Jarren Duran's two-run homer over the Green Monster opened the scoring. Additional runs came via Jake Rogers, Abreu, Andruw Monasterio, Masataka Yoshida, and Caleb Durbin, marking the second consecutive game of double-digit scoring for Boston.
