Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8 will reportedly feature a 20% smaller display crease using new display technology. According to a report, the company plans to use Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) on both the top and bottom layers of the foldable screen, a shift from previous designs.

The foldable will also incorporate a laser-drilled metal support plate to reinforce the structure and further minimize the crease. This approach contrasts with rumored plans for the iPhone Fold, which is expected to use a different glass substrate while sourcing its foldable display from Samsung.

While Samsung showcased a crease-free foldable display at CES 2026, it remains unclear if that exact technology will make it into the Z Fold8. The move aims to address a key consumer complaint about foldables and maintain Samsung's lead in the category ahead of Apple's expected entry.
