Google is going to be shutting down the Google Assistant service, now that Gemini is taking over.

The Google Assistant shutdown will commence on September 4, but it “may take a few weeks” to reach everyone who's still using it.

The shutdown will affect Android phones, Wear OS watches, headphones that relied on the phone's Assistant, and vehicles using Android Auto, because those platforms depended on the phone‑based Google Assistant. Cars that run Google’s Android Automotive will keep the Assistant alive after September 4.

Google Home speakers, smart displays and Google TV will also stay functional, as the company says it is committed to a smooth transition and believes Gemini will deliver an even more capable and helpful assistant experience.

The move marks the end of the original voice‑controlled helper that debuted years ago, pushing users toward the new Gemini‑powered features while preserving core functionality on selected devices.
