How to Switch Back to Google Assistant from Gemini on Android

Users frustrated with Gemini's performance can revert to Google Assistant on their Android devices. The AI assistant replacement has drawn complaints about slow response times, misunderstood commands, and frequent errors. Many users also report inaccurate weather forecasts and failed smart home controls, making the switch appealing for those seeking reliability.

The rollback process works on standard Android phones through Settings > Apps > Assistant > Digital assistants from Google. Users simply select Google Assistant instead of Gemini and confirm the change. This method provides a straightforward path back to the previous assistant for most Android users experiencing issues.

Phones with custom interfaces like Samsung's One UI, Xiaomi's Hyper OS, or Oppo's Color OS require an alternative approach. Users should open the Google app, tap their profile photo, access Settings, and find the Google Assistant option to make the switch. The process involves scrolling to the Digital assistants section and choosing the preferred assistant.

However, removing Gemini from Workspace apps means sacrificing certain features while working in Docs or Sheets. Users can also disable AI Overviews in search results for fewer Gemini-powered interruptions. The rollback option acknowledges that Google's AI push hasn't satisfied all users.
