Meta's Free Facebook Verified Badge

Meta has introduced "Facebook Verified," a new, free feature designed to distinguish real user profiles from AI-generated fakes. The verification process involves users recording a short video selfie, which Meta compares to their existing profile photos. This method aims to confirm the identity of genuine individuals.

The company states the process is free, typically takes minutes, and requires users to be at least 18 years old and adhere to Meta's Community Standards, showing no signs of inauthentic behavior. "Facebook Verified" is exclusively for personal profiles, not Pages or Pro Mode accounts. Once obtained, the badge will appear on Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and the user's Profile, with future plans to include Feed posts.

This initiative is distinct from the paid "Meta Verified" subscription, which offers additional benefits. "Facebook Verified" is purely about confirming user authenticity. The rollout is happening in phases, beginning in select markets, with a global expansion planned.
