Midjourney Acquires Astrology App Co-Star

Midjourney, known for its AI image and video generation tools, is expanding into astrology with the acquisition of the popular app Co-Star. Co-Star CEO Banu Guler will join Midjourney as Chief Design Officer, maintaining "complete control" over the app with Midjourney's backing.

Guler described the acquisition as a natural progression stemming from her friendship with Midjourney founder David Holz and their shared belief in technology's ability to reveal humanity. This move signals Midjourney's ambition to diversify beyond its core AI tools, following its recent announcement of developing a full-body ultrasonic scanner through its new division, Midjourney Health.

Co-Star boasts significant reach, having connected with 35 percent of young people in the US, with tens of millions of downloads. However, this acquisition comes as younger demographics, particularly Gen Z (ages 14 to 29), show increasing negativity towards generative AI, according to a recent Gallup survey. Despite regular use, their excitement about AI has decreased, while anger has risen.
