Riot Ends 2XKO Development, Servers Stay Online

Riot Games is ending active development of its fighting game 2XKO in December 2026. The game will continue receiving content updates through October, with servers remaining online for free play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Today, August 20, marks the cutoff for new in-game purchases, and refunds are being processed for items bought before that date.

The final character additions include Lux arriving September 8 in patch 1.3.1, followed by Samira in patch 1.3.3 in October. The September update will also introduce the $40 2XKO Ultimate Bundle, unlock all champions for free, and remove Ranked lobbies.

2XKO launched for free in January 2026 as Riot's major console expansion. Despite interest from fighting game community pockets, engagement remained flat and operational costs exceeded revenue. A February layoff of half the development team signaled early trouble. Riot stated it would have continued development if a viable future existed, but the game's financial performance did not meet expectations.
