Apple Music Adds AI Content Labels for Transparency

Apple Music will introduce visible AI-generated content labels later this year, expanding its transparency requirements announced in March. The platform will display 'Made With AI' labels to users for tracks, artwork, compositions, and music videos where AI was used to create a material portion of the content. Apple defines AI-platform-generated content as anything primarily derived from a generative AI service, requiring content providers to include AI Transparency Tags accordingly. The company aims to provide listeners with maximum transparency and has directed creators to its Music Style Guide for guidance.

This move reflects broader industry efforts to address the growing prevalence of AI-generated music. Spotify recently announced that AI Personas' music will be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. Deezer reported that fully AI-generated tracks now exceed 50% of daily new music uploads, though they remain excluded from recommendations and editorial playlists.

Apple Music's platform lead Oliver Schusser noted that while over one-third of monthly uploads to Apple Music are fully AI-generated, they account for less than 0.5% of total listening. The service requires an active subscription at $11.99 per month with one month free, or through the Apple One bundle.
