Apple Music Introduces Optional AI Content Tags

Apple has introduced optional AI-disclosure labels, called Transparency Tags, for Apple Music. The system allows music distributors and record labels to voluntarily tag specific content—including tracks, compositions, and music videos—that was created with artificial intelligence. This move provides a metadata-based way to identify AI-assisted work, though it places the entire responsibility for disclosure on third parties.

This voluntary approach contrasts with stricter measures taken by competitors. Spotify announced its own AI-disclosure labels in September 2025 and also prohibits AI voice impersonations. Deezer, however, has employed an automated AI-detection system for over a year, claiming it identifies more than 13.4 million AI-generated tracks daily and views much of this content as fraudulent.

Apple's system relies entirely on distributor cooperation, meaning AI-generated content may remain unlabeled. Without mandatory requirements or an automated detection layer, the effectiveness of Transparency Tags depends on industry self-policing. The company has not indicated plans to implement a policy akin to Spotify's or to deploy its own scanning technology, leaving significant gaps in transparency for listeners.
