AI Music Floods Apple Music But Listeners Stay Away

AI-generated music is flooding Apple Music's submission pipeline, but listeners aren't biting. In an interview published April 22, Apple Music VP Oliver Schusser revealed that while more than a third of tracks delivered to the service are "100% AI," actual listening remains below 0.5%.

The stark imbalance highlights a gap between content volume and consumer interest. Tools that generate full tracks with minimal input have made it easy for distributors to flood streaming platforms with new material, yet music discovery still relies on cultural relevance, artist identity, and editorial promotion.

Apple is building safeguards before the problem overwhelms the platform. Schusser announced the company developed internal technology to identify what AI model created each track. Apple mandates that labels and distributors flag AI-generated material at delivery, using its detection systems to verify those disclosures.
