DJI Osmo Pocket 4P Targets Pro Creators With 17-Stop Dynamic Range

DJI unveiled details about its upcoming Osmo Pocket 4P pro gimbal camera at an event in Malta, positioning it as a successor to the popular Osmo Pocket 3. The device features dual cameras: a standard wide lens and a 3x zoom lens specifically designed for portrait and product photography. What stands out most is the claimed 17 stops of dynamic range, which would surpass virtually all consumer cameras and rival Arri's expensive cinema equipment. DJI paired this with a new D-Log2 profile to fully utilize the expanded range.

The zoom lens offers a 60mm equivalent focal length on full-frame sensors, while the main camera sits around 20mm, giving creators ultra-wide and portrait capabilities in one compact unit. Beyond the technical specs, DJI is offering the Pocket 4P in white and black color options, matching its main competitor, the Insta360 Luna Ultra. This gives buyers more aesthetic choices, though white finishes tend to attract dust and dirt more visibly.

DJI kept pricing and other specifications under wraps, but the camera has already launched in China following the company's staggered release pattern. No dates yet for Europe or North America, though an early next quarter timeline seems likely. The 17-stop dynamic range claim remains unverified until independent testing confirms it.

This move signals DJI's push into professional content creation tools, bridging the gap between consumer vlogging gear and high-end cinema cameras. If the dynamic range claims hold true, it could pressure competitors to improve their offerings while giving creators more flexibility in challenging lighting conditions.
