EU Commission Approves Apple App Store Terms

The European Commission has welcomed Apple's revised App Store business terms for the EU, following changes mandated by the Digital Markets Act.

Apple's initial proposal was rejected due to the Core Technology Fee and confusing rate structures. After negotiations, the company introduced new terms that eliminate the Core Technology Fee and implement percentage-based rates ranging from 5% to 26%.

The Commission stated it will monitor Apple's effective implementation of the new terms, emphasizing that EU users have the right to full and effective choice of alternative app distribution channels under the DMA.

While Epic Games remains dissatisfied with the new terms, calling them a violation of the Digital Markets Act, the majority of developers and regulators appear satisfied with the outcome. Epic argues that any fee above 0% on external purchases is excessive, but the EC's approval suggests the changes meet regulatory requirements.
