AirPods Pro 4 with cameras delayed to 2027

Despite a leaked demo video, Apple's AirPods with cameras remain on track for a 2027 release. According to Bloomberg, the company is expected to debut AirPods Pro 4 with cameras, though they won't be announced until product issues are resolved.

The leaked video reportedly featured the shelved AirPods Pro 3 version, supporting claims from leaker Kosutami that the footage was old and accidentally left behind. While some speculated the project was cancelled, an AirPods Pro 4 variant is still in development.

Apple's camera-equipped earbuds won't be able to take photos or videos, addressing concerns about them becoming "pervertpods" — a nickname stemming from abuses of Meta's smart glasses with built-in cameras. The included sensors will instead focus on AI and accessibility features, gathering enough data for environmental perception without producing detailed images.

This approach may help Apple navigate privacy concerns while still delivering utility through Visual Intelligence. The company appears to be taking a cautious stance, prioritizing safeguards over photo capture capabilities in its wearable camera technology.
