Apple's Next AirPods: Cameras & Siri Integration

Apple is reportedly developing new AirPods with integrated cameras, intended to work with Siri for environmental context rather than traditional photo or video capture. These earbuds could offer features like identifying food ingredients for nutritional information or interacting with apps like Reminders and Maps. Design changes are expected, including longer stems to house the cameras and a small LED indicator for active data capture.

Originally slated for a 2026 release, these camera-equipped AirPods have reportedly been pushed back to late 2027 due to delays with Apple Intelligence and Siri development. The exact positioning of this new product within Apple's lineup remains unclear; it could be branded as "AirPods Pro 4" or a new "AirPods Ultra" tier.

Meanwhile, the current AirPods lineup includes AirPods 4 ($99), AirPods 4 with ANC ($159), AirPods Pro 3 ($219), and AirPods Max 2 ($499). The AirPods Max received an update earlier this year with the H2 chip. Analysts suggest a lighter AirPods Max model could arrive in 2027, though this is unconfirmed. Given the extended timeline for the camera AirPods, consumers looking for new earbuds may find the current offerings a good purchase, especially if found on sale.
