Wrexham have secured the signing of Preston North End captain Ben Whiteman on a three-year contract with an option for an additional year. The 30-year-old midfielder, whose transfer fee remains undisclosed, brings a wealth of experience, having made 200 Championship appearances. Whiteman completed his medical with Wrexham on Tuesday.

Whiteman expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating, "It's an amazing feeling to be here, I'm thrilled to sign for Wrexham. I think any Championship player at this moment in time wants to join this football club." He added that Wrexham's ambition to reach the Premier League aligns with his own.

Whiteman was a regular starter for Preston during his five-and-a-half-year tenure. However, his departure was met with criticism from Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom, who suggested Whiteman forced the move by informing club officials he had played his last game for Preston. Heckingbottom commented, "Ben knew there was a line I didn't want him to cross and unfortunately he has. He's made his bed."

This move marks Wrexham's second signing of the summer, following the acquisition of Danny Imray from Crystal Palace.
