Wrexham are set to appoint Steve Nickson as sporting director from Newcastle United, a move the club believes represents a next-level appointment as they bid to bolster hopes of reaching the Premier League. Nickson spent 15 years with the Magpies and was pivotal in their record signing of Miguel Almiron in 2019.

He will work closely with manager Phil Parkinson, who has been kept updated on the pursuit and is expected to fully utilise Nickson's wealth of experience. Nickson previously received glowing praise from Eddie Howe and Amanda Staveley, who hailed him as "amazing" during her time as a director.

The Red Dragons secured three successive promotions under Parkinson between 2023 and 2025. In their first Championship campaign since 1981-82, Wrexham finished seventh, missing out on a play-off spot on the final day.

Parkinson took a 28-man squad to the United States for pre-season fixtures against Leeds United, Liverpool and Sunderland. The competitive schedule begins at Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on 7 August, with the Championship campaign starting at Cardiff City on 17 August. Despite no summer signings yet, Parkinson expects additions before the window closes.
