Sixteen-year-old Molly Stroud from Plymouth is set to join Manchester City's academy on a two-year deal after impressing while playing for Wales Under-16s. The centre-back has been competing in the Devon Under-16 league against boys since primary school, a decision that has shaped her physical and technical development.

Coach Dave Leonard believes Stroud could easily play in the WSL or even the Champions League, citing her exceptional attitude and tactical improvement over five years. She helped Devon Girls' Under-16 side win the ESFA Inter-County Cup final last month, defeating Durham 2-1 at Stoke City's Bet365 Stadium.

The move represents a significant step up for Stroud, who will relocate nearly 300 miles from her family to live with a host family in Manchester. Her father Brett, a former Plymouth Albion rugby player, praised her dedication and expressed pride in her achievements.

Playing against boys has provided Stroud with a competitive edge, though she acknowledges opponents now tower over her physically. This season marks her final campaign in boys' football, making way for her transition to one of Europe's premier women's clubs.
