Formula 1's 2027 calendar features a record-equalling 24 race weekends with a significant increase in Sprint events, rising from six to 10. The 10 Sprint venues are evenly split between established hosts — Montreal, Silverstone, Monza, Interlagos, and Qatar's Lusail — and newcomers Sakhir, Albert Park, Suzuka, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit. The inclusion of Monaco marks its first-ever Sprint, sparking debate due to the circuit's narrow, twisty layout where overtaking is notoriously difficult and races are often processional.

F1 highlights that the Sprint format adds a second grid-setting qualifying session, traditionally the most exciting part of the Monaco weekend. Sky Sports' Craig Slater noted that Sprints have historically been held at tracks with overtaking opportunities, which Monaco lacks. However, reducing practice sessions from three to one could increase unpredictability as drivers have less time to build rhythm.

The current Sprint format, awarding points to the top-eight finishers, is expected to remain unchanged. The season opens in Bahrain, maintaining the sport's Middle Eastern presence.
