Windows 11 Gets Built-in Network Speed Test in Latest Preview

Microsoft has added a built-in network speed test to the Windows 11 taskbar in the latest Insider Preview builds. The feature, available in builds 26100.7918 and 26200.7918, lets users test Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and cellular connections directly from the taskbar. Users can access it through the Wi-Fi or Cellular Quick Settings or by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray.

Previously, Windows users had to rely on third-party applications or websites to measure their network performance. This new tool opens in the default browser and uses Bing for the actual speed test. The feature aims to simplify network troubleshooting and provide a quick way to check connection speeds without installing additional software.

Microsoft is rolling out this update through both "gradual" and "normal" channels to Release Preview Channel participants. The network speed test joins other recent taskbar improvements as part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts to enhance Windows 11's built-in utilities. This integration reflects the company's strategy to reduce dependency on external tools for common diagnostic tasks.
