Microsoft Fixes Windows Search, Removes Ads

Microsoft has finally addressed a major pain point in Windows 11 – the Windows Search Box. New builds on the Experimental Channel for Insiders now show fewerAlgorithms, reducing visual clutter.

Recent searches are easier to locate, and the Search Box clearly displays the source of each result, whether an app, setting, file, web result, or Microsoft Store suggestion. The goal is to give users more transparency about where their results come from.

A key change is the removal of promotional content. Previously, Microsoft pushed product promotions before local matches, turning the search into an advertising marketplace. Now local app, setting, and file results appear first, followed by web results.

Users can also customize the experience via Settings > Privacy & Security > Search, turning off web and Store searches entirely. File searches are faster and more reliable, and the app search tolerates spelling mistakes, providing a more accurate and local-focused experience.
