Microsoft has announced sweeping changes to Windows 11 following widespread criticism of recent updates, including bugs, broken functionality, and user frustration over removed features. The company’s Windows Insider Blog post, authored by Pavan Davuluri, President of Windows + Devices, acknowledges that the team has spent months analyzing feedback, leading to a plan to walk back contentious changes and restore features from earlier Windows versions. One key update will allow taskbar relocation to any screen edge, addressing a long-standing complaint. Copilot integrations will also be scaled back, with removal from apps like Snipping Tool, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad. Microsoft also plans to give users more control over updates, allowing longer intervals between restarts and skipping updates during setup.

File Explorer will receive optimizations for faster launch times, while the Feedback Hub will be redesigned to simplify user input. These changes will begin rolling out to the Insider Program in March and April 2026, with broader adoption dependent on feedback. Davuluri emphasized that this is the first step in a larger effort to improve Windows 11 quality, with more updates planned for later in 2026.

The company’s approach reflects a shift toward prioritizing user experience over aggressive innovation, signaling a potential turning point for Windows 11’s reputation.
