Microsoft announced in March 2026 that it would work to provide smoother navigation and more reliable performance for everyday tasks. Over four months later, Pavan Davaluri, President of Windows + Devices, posted an update on X. He highlighted several improvements, including a better taskbar and Start experience, and focused on memory efficiency.

Davaluri says Microsoft has implemented substantial improvements in memory efficiency and latency, accelerating the modernization of Windows 11. The company has reduced memory overhead across apps and components, and tuned WinUI 3 so that built‑in apps use less memory. These changes lower the overall Windows memory footprint, keeping the system fast and responsive.

Looking ahead, the team will target memory optimization for 8 GB and above. The goal is to reduce the Windows memory footprint on PCs with 8 GB or more of RAM, delivering a consistently quick experience. Microsoft also plans to drive efficiencies across Chromium and Webview2 components when they appear in the OS.

Despite these efforts, a recent TechPowerUp poll found that only 6 % of 24,100 participants noticed a significant improvement, 12 % saw minor gains, and 46 % felt Windows stayed the same. Alarmingly, 36 % said Windows 11 was actually getting worse after the announcement.
