Microsoft is finally tackling the UI inconsistencies that plague Windows 11, where the operating system blends elements from Windows 7 to the modern design language. The latest preview build reveals that the File Properties window in File Explorer is being rebuilt with the WinUI 3 framework, bringing it in line with the rest of the system’s look and feel.

The change was first spotted by user Phantomofearth on BlueSky, who documented the new framework in this long‑standing Windows component. Until now, Microsoft had largely ignored smaller UI elements, leaving a patchwork of legacy frameworks like WebView2 and React scattered across the desktop.

Microsoft’s goal is to replace all non‑uniform frameworks with desktop‑only WinUI 3, which should cut application latency and provide a smoother experience. The update to the Properties window is the first visible sign of progress since the launch of Windows 11 in dernier 2021. The company is moving slowly, carefully porting legacy parts such as the classic Win32 Control Panel into the modern Settings app while testing to avoid breaking network and printer drivers.
