Twenty-five classic games from EA's 1990s era have been lightly remastered and updated for sale on Steam and GOG, including several Wing Commander titles and nearly the entire Ultima series. Featured remasters include Wing Commander I-IV and Prophecy, Privateer 2, and Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition. The initiative stems from a personal project by EA senior producer Jim Vessella, who discovered a trove of original game assets at EA's Redwood Shores campus.
After working on the Command & Conquer: Remastered Collection in 2019, Vessella cataloged a room filled with poorly labeled physical media, uncovering nearly all original full-motion-video cutscenes from Wing Commander III and IV. He coordinated with contractors and key community member Matt Wells to build the remasters. These re-releases offer a chance for new players to experience beloved titles from a celebrated era of PC gaming history.
