Microsoft has begun rolling out a new feature update, KB5120998, for Windows 11, bringing significant visual changes. The update introduces expanded taskbar customization, allowing users to move the taskbar to the top, left, or right of the screen, in addition to the traditional bottom placement. A smaller taskbar mode is also included, reducing icon and taskbar size for devices with limited screen space.

The Start menu receives similar attention, offering small, medium, and large size options. The Recommended section has been renamed to "Recent," and File Explorer Home now supports touch scrolling. Windows Search has a refreshed, less cluttered look, with clearer indicators for whether a result is an app, setting, file, web result, or from the Microsoft Store. Users can also disable web and store suggestions, and Windows can automatically index frequently used folders.

Additional improvements include updated progress indicators for startup, sign-in, restart, shutdown, and update installation. Virtual desktop switching and display settings also receive reliability enhancements. The update is being distributed in phases, so availability may vary by region and system. Users are advised to be patient if the update is not immediately available.
