Microsoft released a beta test of download speed fixes in preview build 2608.260719-2200, introducing a smart download client that checks available content servers, tests connections, and selects the fastest route, acting like a smart web router.

The client runs periodic speed tests to keep using the quickest servers. In early Windows Central testing on the Xbox Series X, the console hit 250 Mb/s after the client was applied, showing Microsoft can route data from the fastest server relative to your connection.

Download speeds now only limited by the ISP plan. The smart client optimizes bandwidth, overcoming typical suboptimal routing. Tech Power Up‑hosted downloads are geographically distributed, so users get the fastest local server.

The same technology is expected on the Xbox PC application, finally addressing the slow, painful game download process on Xbox consoles and the PC app, improving user experience.
