LG Display has begun mass production of the world's first laptop panel with a variable refresh rate ranging from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. The new Oxide 1 Hz technology automatically adjusts the refresh rate based on screen content, dropping to 1 Hz for static images like documents and emails while boosting to 120 Hz for video and gaming.

This breakthrough promises 48% longer battery life compared to existing displays by eliminating unnecessary power consumption during static screen usage. The technology uses proprietary circuit algorithms and specialized oxide materials in the thin-film transistor design to achieve minimal power leakage at low refresh rates. The panel will debut in Dell's premium XPS lineup, unveiled at CES 2026.

LG Display plans to expand the technology to OLED panels by 2027 as part of its Carbon Emission Reduction Project, targeting up to 10% reduction in carbon emissions during product usage. The company emphasizes that extended battery life addresses growing power demands from AI computing tasks while enhancing user mobility. This innovation represents a significant step forward in display efficiency for premium laptops.
