Intel's Nova Lake brings AVX-512 to all cores

Intel's upcoming "Nova Lake" processors, part of the Core Ultra Series 4, will reintroduce the AVX-512 instruction set to client CPUs. This significant change means both the high-performance "Coyote Cove" P-cores and the efficient "Arctic Wolf" E-cores will support AVX-512.

This unified instruction set architecture across both core types is necessary to prevent runtime errors when threads migrate between P-cores and E-cores. Intel previously removed AVX-512 from client processors after the 11th Gen "Rocket Lake," largely because E-cores lacked support, and the instruction set contributed to overheating issues on that older architecture. The company is expected to implement a client-optimized version of AVX-512.

AMD already integrated AVX-512 with its "Zen 4" architecture and further refined it with "Zen 5." Intel's return of AVX-512 could accelerate AI inferencing tasks on consumer devices.
