Bungie's new management has addressed the fallout from effectively canceling Destiny 2. In a new video titled "The Next Chapter for Bungie," studio head Poria Torkan and Josh Deane, Marathon's new general manager and head of product, admitted Bungie "lost sight of" its heritage and communities. Torkan said, "we lost trust, we lost incredible colleagues, and our ambitions as a studio stalled." They committed to earning back player trust, starting with Destiny, and revealed more Destiny stories to tell despite previous reports of no Destiny 3.

Deane said, "We want to return Destiny to its original promise, to return to awe-inspiring mystery, the sense of discovery, and the promise of a community of guardians rallying together, raging against impossible odds. But that has to start with restoring what's rightfully yours." He added they will commit to unvaulting Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids that never should have been ripped away.

Torkan stated Marathon is important but "isn't and never was intended to replace Destiny." It launched to strong critical and player reception but didn't reach as many players as hoped. Deane explained Marathon will "evolve beyond the genre constraints" into a deeper survival experience, with the Symbiosis PvE mode coming in December. Fans have seen this as a win, declaring "Destiny is back," with hints of more Destiny games in the future.
